When it comes to email marketing, there is a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it. In the world we live in there is so much noise going on in everyone’s inboxes and because of that, it’s getting harder to have your email read.
Because of this, there are some strategies you need to know and put into action when it comes to successful email marketing and growing your list…
1.Know Your List.
Far too often we try to sell to people without truly knowing who our target market is. This is also very important when it comes to emailing your list. You must know them! If you start sending emails that are not relevant to them, they will very quickly view you as a spammer and unsubscribe. So do your homework first.
2.Have a Killer Headline.
Headlines are a very important part of getting your email opened. If you have a boring or spammy looking headline, chances are they will never open your email. You want a headline that grabs their attention… Something that hooks them and pulls them in. Here are some examples:
“The Biggest Mistake _________ Make”
“The Fastest Way To ______________”
“Something Every ______ Needs To Know”
“Invitation Only – Special Offers Inside!”
You get the idea. Here is a little tip for you:
Start a swipe file. You can do this right inside your inbox. Create a folder and the next time you see some good headlines, move those emails over to your swipe file folder. This way you can go back and get ideas. Now you don’t want to copy people, so you may need to tweak things around.
3.Mail Consistently.
It can be easy to think that you don’t want to overdo it, because if you email too much, people are going to become annoyed. This may be true, but you also don’t want to allow too much time to go by. You don’t want them to sign up for something and you wait so long before emailing them that when you finally do email them, they think you are a spammer because they have already forgotten about you.
So keep in touch with your subscribers. You may lose a few here and there, but if you are making more sales, that makes up for it doesn’t it?
4.Offer Value.
This is a BIG deal! If all you are ever doing is pitching a sale to your subscribers, you are asking for trouble. Your goal needs to be, to position yourself as an expert and a leader. You do this by offering them valuable content. Because you have taken the time to know what they want to know about, you can now effectively offer them value and pitch a sale to them that won’t be offensive.
I will say, you don’t want to just email for the heck of it. You always want a point and a purpose for your emails. You should have a call to action, either by having them click on a link, go to a blog post, or just respond back with questions and thoughts.
As you start to get known for the value you offer, people will automatically open your emails once they see your name. This is a very good place to be!
5.Join Your Competition.
You should know how your competition is communicating with their list. So join their list and find out! This is a goldmine of information! You will be able to see exactly how they are pitching their sales and if they are offering value.
You can get some great ideas by doing this.
6.Write To One Person.
It doesn’t matter if you have a list of 20 people or 20 thousand people. You always need to write your emails as if you are writing to just one person. Never say “you guys”. You want your emails to be very personal so your readers will be pulled in much easier. So next time you sit down to write an email, think of one person and begin writing.
7.Use a Good Email Marketing Tool.
What I mean by this is, you need to have a good Auto Responder. There are so many out there to choose from… There is a saying in the circle I hang out with, “sign up for Aweber because you are going to end up there anyway.”
I personally have been very happy with Aweber Auto Responders. They have a great inbox ratio and I love the templates and stats they offer. It’s worth every penny.
Well I hope that gives you some direction when planning you email marketing strategies.
Please let me know what you think and other tips you have!

These are great tips Paul. I guess you could say that I decided to simply start emailing even though I didn’t quite feel ready to begin. But once I just “did it”, it became easier. I feel great now that I have a list. even though it’s small at the moment, its growing and what matter is connecting to the people that are there.
Thank for this!
Very cool.
