Working Out Your Branding Strategies

Did you know that even if you have never focused on branding your business, you are still branding your business? It’s true, everything you do in some form is branding your business. From your business cards, voice mail, web site, how you talk to people and so on, is telling your potential clients and customers something. It’s up to you if its good or bad.

I recently talked with some business owners who had a logo on their trucks that were different than the one on their business cards and shirts. This might not seem like the biggest deal, but it can be! It tells your customers that you are inconsistent and unprofessional. Even though you may be awesome at what you do.

Another thing I have seen is, we as business owners tend to want to look bigger than what we really are. We want to look corporate when we’re really not. Don’t make this mistake. Many are tired of the corporate scene, they want to see a face to the name, they want to talk to a person instead of a machine.

I bring this up because I want to share with you something that really stood out to me.

A few days ago, my wife was on the phone with the customer support line on Jillian Michaels’s fitness membership club. When I walked in the door and made the comment about how it was a surprise to her Jullian’s voice on the support call. Then my wife commented about how fun it was to hear Jillian’s personality on the recording while being on hold…

That’s what got me to thinking…. Since when is it fun to be on hold?!

What Jillian has done with just the support recordings alone is awesome! By adding her personal touch, she is continuing to brand her as the fun, friendly and professional fitness expert that she is.  – So thank you Jillian for being a great example! :)

This might seem pretty basic, but it’s amazing how many business owners skip past the “little things” that can make a big difference.

I highly encourage you to take the time and look over your business and try to find areas in your business that may be giving your business brand a bad name. Remember, You are your brand!

It wasn’t until recently I realize that I had a few business blogs with my name on it that I have not focused on in a long time. They’re not bad looking sites, but they could be improved upon. I realized that those sites are still getting traffic and they are still branding me. So I decided to update them all so everything is consistant in my business. Does that make sense?

So be careful how you are representing your business in all areas of your life. For those of you that use a lot of Internet Marketing Strategies, it’s important to remember…

Almost everything you put on the web cannot be easily erased! So next time you send out a Tweet or update your Facebook page, think about how you are branding your business.

Hope that helps! Keep moving forward!
